Hi! I am Martijn, a dutch photographer, born in 1981 and currently living in Rīga, Latvia with my girlfriend Lieske and our amazing Alaskan Husky Ala.
First of all, thank you for visiting my website and sharing the love for the North. As a photographer and adventurer, I have always been inspired by the greatness and pure beauty of the Arctic and Nordic region. It’s a world that lends itself for adventure and exploration. Many of my images were taken during such expeditions in the North, whether it be sailing or a dogsled expedition.
My first experiences with photography date back to my teenage years. Back then it were mostly the technical aspects of my dad’s camera that drew my attention. After a few years the focus slowly shifted towards photography itself, but it wasn’t until my mid twenties that I really started taking pictures for the sake of photography itself. Since then my photography has taken some twists and turns involving wedding and portrait photography, with outdoor photography as the most constant factor. These disciplines might seem worlds apart at first, but for me they are about the same thing: creating compelling images through interesting compositions and perspectives.
Photography is my parttime business, next to my work as a consultant in business transformations. On an abstract level, my work as a consultant is also about perspectives: providing insights from meaningful viewpoints to guide discussions and help organisations move forward.
In 2021, Lieske started her posting at the Dutch embassy in Rīga, Latvia. As such, Latvia will be our home for the next few years. Not a bad thing, considering the beauty of the Baltics and their close connection to the far north of Scandinavia.
